Talking to Freedom Forum’s Media Monitoring Desk, Bibhu Adhikari, reporter
with the News 24 Television, said, “Although we (I, Resham Tiwari of Nepal Television, Binod
Pyakurel of Tarai Television, Basanta Khatiwada of Ghatana Ra Bichar weekly and Prakash
Lamsal of Image Television) were called to make news, some of the followers and protectors
including Darshan Limbu, Bolhari Rai, and a German national beat us, seized our cameras and
damaged the reels while taking photographs about Bamjan who was being made public for
sermon after meditation.”
The followers of Bamjan also spoke foul on them, he said, adding that they reached to the
police for help.
It is the latest incident as a series of attack and threats on journalists from different quarters.
The incident is condemnable as it is the incident of press freedom violation. The local
administration needs to mete out action on those who beat up journalists so that it would help
minimize impunity and make journalists feel justice.

Little Buddha’s aides thrash scribes

Nepal Mountain News/Thursday, March 22nd, 2012 | Posted by nmn http://www.nepalmountainnews.com/cms/2012/03/22/little-buddhas-aides-thrash-scribes/

Volunteers attending to Ram Bahadur Bamjan, who is said to be meditating in the Halkhoriya jungle area of Bara since 2005, thrashed five journalists.

Bibhu Adhikari of News 24 TV, Resham Tiwari of NTV, Prakash Lamsal of Image Channel, Binod Pyakurel of TTV and Basant Khatiwada of the Mofasal Dot Com Weekly fell victim to the wrath of the aides of Bamjan, who is also nicknamed Buddha Boy.

Following the attack, the journalists rushed to an Armed Police Force camp in Piluwa. “We were filming Bamjan’s sermon but suddenly his aides attacked us and seized our cameras,” said Adhikari.

Police had reached Halkhoriya after the incident, but they too were barred from entering the site where Bamjan was giving his sermon. Police, however, managed to get journalists’ cameras back.
